Jokowi: Marunda Reservoir Construction Finish This End of Year

Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said that the construction of Marunda Reservoir would finish this end of year. When it is finished, the reservoir as wide as 56 hectares located at RW 02, Marunda Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, North Jakarta, is expected would be able to resolve flood problems in North Jakarta and East Jakarta.

“All finish this end of year. Later, the reservoir will be equipped with children’s playground and green open space,” he stated when visiting Marunda Reservoir construction site, Wednesday (8/6).

According to Jokowi, at this time there are still 5-6 hectares more of land in acquisition process. The only thing left to do is paying the land that would need money from the City Budget (APBD) for as much as Rp 65 billion.

“(The land will be) paid this August-September. The APBD (money) is already available but not enough. It will be added in the City Budget Amendment (APBDP),” he uttered.

Meanwhile, Head of Jakarta Public Works Department, Manggas Rudi Siahaan, explained that the dredging work of the reservoir is the early phase of a whole dredging as wide as 51 hectares. For start, his department is targeting to complete the dredging of 14.3 hectares this end of year.

“At this time, there are only 8.5 hectares dredged. If the remaining land has been acquisitioned, we can finish the dredging according to the early phase target,” he told.
